Boiler maintenance
Boiler Maintenance & Inspections in Northern Alberta
Planned maintenance keeps year-round plants out of emergency mode, and Edmonton winters, with design temperatures around −30 °C, leave little margin for a heating plant. ABSA – The Pressure Equipment Safety Authority sets the inspection intervals that keep each boiler on a valid certificate. We time inspections to your ABSA schedule, take combustion readings and tune before winter, and fit waterside and fireside cleaning around your shutdowns.
Each visit covers the burner and controls, feedwater, traps and piping as well as the boiler itself. Service agreements can be set up for monthly to quarterly visits, with a team that knows your boiler room. Prime also handles boiler certification and boiler water treatment for steam, closed-loop hot water, glycol and cooling tower systems.
Field service that covers the whole system
Prime’s field service team works directly with your onsite crew on preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and boiler certification. For systems that need more than a tune-up, an onsite system audit checks performance, efficiency potential, safety features and carbon footprint, and recommends upgrades that meet current standards for efficiency, emissions and cost.
Prime’s water treatment division sets up scale, corrosion and condensate treatment for steam boilers and inhibitors for closed-loop hot water and glycol systems. The program includes regular site visits and inspections, boiler clean-ups and continuous onsite training for your boiler room staff.
24/7 emergency serviceCall 780-955-7787 from anywhere in Northern Alberta
If the boiler’s down, you’re not making product. Breakdown calls come in on our 24/7 line, and we confirm timing on the call. Technicians carry mobile repair equipment.
We get steam or heat back first, then trace why the unit failed and how to keep it from happening again. We repair steam and heating boilers over 400,000 BTU, including Hurst, Saskatoon Boiler and CAMUS units, along with burners, combustion controls, pressure vessels and piping. Repairs and alterations run under Prime’s ABSA-approved quality control program (Certificate of Authorization AQP-21130).
Shop repairs and combustion upgrades
Bigger jobs come back to Prime’s fully equipped boiler shop for custom fabrication, boiler and pressure vessel repairs, pipe fabrication to industry standards and your specifications, and refractory repair on steam, hot water and glycol boilers from 25 to 5,000 HP. Shop upgrades leave with the recertification paperwork you need to manage and verify your equipment.
Prime’s combustion and instrumentation specialists also modernize burners and controls on site with low-NOx and digital combustion control, O₂ trim and remote monitoring, installing and servicing Autoflame, Oilon and Limpsfield equipment.

Boiler rentals
Boiler Rentals Across Northern Alberta
Most rental calls start with a failure: a unit facing a long or costly repair, or an older boiler that won’t pass inspection. New boilers can take months to deliver, and a rental carries the load in the meantime. We also bring units in for turnarounds, capacity bumps and seasonal heat, for anywhere from a week to several months.
The fleet, the largest in Western Canada, runs from 30 BHP Scotch marine firetubes up to 400–800 BHP watertubes and a 2,200 HP Nebraska watertube, skid- or trailer-mounted, in diesel, natural gas and dual-fuel. For a first rental, we walk your site beforehand so the connections, fuel and placement are planned before the unit arrives.

Our Edmonton branch covers the capital region and the Industrial Heartland, from Sherwood Park, St. Albert and Spruce Grove to Leduc and Camrose. Technicians and rental units also go to Fort Saskatchewan, about 50 minutes away, Lloydminster, about 3 hours, Cold Lake, about 3.5 hours, and Fort McMurray, about 5 hours. Replacing 1960s superheated steam boilers at Wildcat Hills
Two 110,000 lb/hr Groupe Simoneau superheated steam boilers with Oilon burners for Canlin Energy, with automation, commissioning and after-sales support.
Our boiler went down overnight. Can the Edmonton team come out now?
Call 780-955-7787 at any hour. The line is answered 24/7, and we confirm timing on the call. Technicians carry mobile repair equipment to sites across Northern Alberta.
Will you work on our boiler’s make and size?
We work on steam and heating boilers over 400,000 BTU, including Hurst, Saskatoon Boiler, CAMUS, Limpsfield, Power Flame and Oilon equipment, and low-water-content watertube steam boilers. We also service combustion controls from Autoflame, Fireye, Honeywell, Lamtec and Siemens. Refractory work covers boilers from 25 to 5,000 HP.
Do you do oilfield recertifications?
Yes. Our Nisku shop handles recertifications for oilfield customers and provides the paperwork that verifies the work, so you can manage and maintain your equipment on record. Certification and recertification can be done with or without safety-authority inspections. Call 780-955-7787 with the equipment details.
What do you need from us for a turnaround rental?
We’ll ask what process you run, your operating pressure, fuel, available voltage and water, and where the unit will sit. Plan the steam connection early. If there’s no connection stubbed out with a valve on it and the nearest line is hundreds of feet away, piping alone can take a few weeks.
Is your boiler repair work authorized by ABSA?
Yes. Prime holds ABSA Certificate of Authorization Permit AQP-21130, an approved quality control system for the repair and alteration of Section I power boilers, Section IV heating boilers and pressure vessels, and the construction, repair and alteration of B31.1, B31.1 BEP, B31.3 and B31.9 piping. Prime is also registered with ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, Avetta, Contractor Check and Cognibox.
Does the Edmonton branch reach Cold Lake?
Yes. Cold Lake is about 3.5 hours from our Edmonton branch, and our technicians and rental units cover it along with Lloydminster and Fort McMurray.
Is this still the Prime team we’ve worked with?
Yes. The same Edmonton team answers your call. Prime Boiler Services, led by General Manager Eric Madsen, joined Thermogenics in 2026 and is now backed by the Thermogenics network across North America.
Can you work around our ABSA inspection and keep the plant running?
We schedule maintenance and certification around your ABSA inspection dates and handle the paperwork. On a 1953 boiler at Cascades Container Board, Prime replaced heavy-duty gauge glass, recorded heat numbers, coordinated with ABSA and completed a 300 PSI hydrotest without shutting down the second boiler.
Can you supply steam for hydrotesting or tank work in winter?
Yes. Our rental units provide steam and heat for pipeline hydrotesting in conditions as low as −40 °C, plus rail car and bulker trailer heating, vessel steaming and vapour phase cleaning, and oil storage tank cleaning support. Prime is also a Transport Canada-registered facility (Certificate 25-1156) for TC-44 highway and portable tank modification, repair, test and inspection to CSA B620-20.
