Why Prime

Why Saskatchewan Plants Call Prime

The heating season in Saskatchewan runs seven to eight months, January design temperatures sit in the mid -30s °C, and many plants run process steam continuously. Our Saskatoon team brings Prime’s field crews, provincial credentials, parts inventory and rental fleet to that work, now backed by the Thermogenics network.

Licensed for repairs in Saskatchewan

Our crews repair Sec I and Sec IV boilers, pressure vessels and B31.1/B31.3 piping under Prime’s TSASK-approved quality control system.

Refractory on boilers from 25 HP to 5,000 HP

Our crews repair refractory on steam, hot water and glycol boilers, and modernize burners with low-NOx, O2 trim, digital combustion controls and remote monitoring.

Prime’s parts and fleet, plus the Thermogenics network

The Saskatoon team draws on Prime’s parts inventory and rental fleet, and can now draw on over 10 Thermogenics locations across North America.

Saskatchewan Boiler Maintenance and Inspection Support

A prairie heating season puts long hours on a boiler. Burners cycle through months of extreme cold, refractory takes repeated thermal stress, and poor water chemistry builds scale well before it shows up as a symptom. Our Saskatoon technicians build maintenance programs around how your plant runs: combustion analysis and burner tuning, low-water cutoff and safety valve checks, flame safeguard testing, and inspection of tubes, gaskets and refractory.

We service Hurst, CAMUS, Limpsfield and Oilon boilers, along with Saskatoon Boiler units, a Saskatoon brand established in 1914 and one of Prime’s preferred manufacturers. On controls we work with Autoflame, Fireye, Honeywell, Lamtec and Siemens. Boilers and pressure vessels in this province fall under the Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan (TSASK), and we handle certification and recertification with or without a safety-authority inspection.

Water treatment and the rest of the boiler room

We check the whole boiler room, not just the boiler. That includes deaerators, feedwater tanks, blowdown separators, condensate return and steam traps, along with the chemistry that protects them. Prime runs water treatment programs for steam, closed-loop hot water, glycol and cooling tower systems. Long run times with poor treatment lead directly to scale, corrosion and tube failures.

We also carry out system audits. If an older burner is wasting fuel or holding back output, we can quote a modernization with low-NOx burners, O2 trim and digital combustion controls, and add remote monitoring.

Boiler repair

Saskatchewan Boiler Repair, 24/7

24/7 emergency repairCall our Saskatoon team at 639-998-2537.

Our Saskatoon technicians take emergency calls at any hour and arrive with mobile repair equipment. In a Saskatchewan January, a failed heating plant quickly leads to frozen lines and a building at risk, so the first job is getting you safely back on line: a failed flame safeguard, a tripped low-water cutoff, a leaking tube or a burner that will not light. Once the boiler is carrying the load again, we find out why it failed.

Our crews handle tube work, refractory repair on boilers from 25 HP to 5,000 HP, burner and control faults, and repairs to feedwater tanks, blowdown separators, deaerators and other pressure vessels. Repairs and alterations follow Prime’s TSASK-approved quality control system, and we prepare the paperwork that goes with them. Custom fabrication and pipe fabrication are available through Prime’s shop services.

Troubleshooting condensate, feedwater and controls

Repeated trips, short cycling and wet steam often trace back to condensate return, feedwater, steam traps or controls. We troubleshoot the full loop, and if an upgrade makes sense we design and install it: new controls, burner retrofits, new piping or a full engineered boiler replacement with project management from start to finish.

Prime also holds Transport Canada Certificate of Registration 25-1156 for TC-44 highway and portable tank modification, repair, test and inspection to CSA B620-20, and ABSA Certificate of Authorization Permit AQP-21130 for boiler work at Alberta sites.

Boiler rentals

Saskatchewan Rental Boilers for Outages and Projects

Prime runs the largest boiler rental fleet in Western Canada: 30+ skid- and trailer-mounted units from a 30 BHP firetube to a 2,200 HP Nebraska watertube, in low and high pressure, firing diesel, natural gas or dual fuel. For larger steam loads there are watertube steam units from 30,000 to 110,000 lb/hr at up to 750 psig, superheated steam trailers from 30,000 to 75,000 lb/hr with up to 750°F superheat, low-NOx options, and glycol and thermal fluid heaters.

Rentals cover plant turnarounds, emergency outages and seasonal work, including pipeline hydrotesting in conditions as low as -40 °C or colder, rail car and bulker trailer heating, vessel steaming and oil storage tank cleaning support. When planning a rental, look first at where the unit will sit and how far it is from your plant steam line, because a long piping run can take longer than the boiler delivery. Our team can handle start-up and commissioning.

Frequently asked questions

Questions from Saskatchewan & Manitoba customers

Our boiler tripped overnight. Can someone come out from Saskatoon?

Yes. Call our Saskatoon team on 639-998-2537 at any hour. Technicians arrive with mobile repair equipment and restore heat or steam first. In winter, call as soon as you see a fault rather than waiting for a full shutdown.

Which boiler makes do your technicians know?

We work on steam and heating boilers over 400,000 BTU, including Hurst, Saskatoon Boiler, CAMUS, Limpsfield and Oilon, and Power Flame equipment in our combustion work. That includes low-water-content watertube steam boilers. On burners and controls we service Autoflame, Fireye, Honeywell, Lamtec, Siemens, Oilon and Limpsfield. Our refractory work covers steam, hot water and glycol boilers from 25 HP to 5,000 HP.

We have a turnaround coming up. What do you need to size a rental boiler?

We need your load, pressure, fuel, voltage and where the unit will sit relative to your steam line. The piping to your steam line often sets the schedule, so plan it early. Our team can handle start-up and commissioning.

Can you do TSASK-registered repairs on our boilers and pressure vessels?

Yes. Prime holds TSASK Certificate of Registration and Contractor’s License 0159-0001, an approved quality control system for repair and alteration of Sec I and Sec IV boilers and pressure vessels, and B31.1 and B31.3 piping.

Do you serve plants outside Saskatoon?

Our Saskatoon team serves plants across Saskatchewan and Manitoba, from Martensville, Warman, Osler, Dalmeny, Delisle, Clavet and Allan out to Humboldt, Rosetown, North Battleford, Prince Albert, Regina and Winnipeg.

Is this the same team as Prime Boiler Services?

Yes. This is Prime Boiler Services’ Saskatchewan branch, at 2011 Quebec Ave. Prime Boiler Services joined Thermogenics in 2026. The Prime name and the local team stay, with the wider Thermogenics network behind them.

Can you get approved as a contractor at our mine or heavy oil site?

Yes. Prime is set up with ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, Avetta, Contractor Check and Cognibox to help with site contractor approval. Once approved, our crews handle field repairs with mobile equipment, pressure vessel and piping work, and turnaround rentals.

What should we do before winter to keep our heating plant reliable?

Book a pre-season visit, because a long prairie heating season leaves little margin for a neglected boiler. The visit covers combustion tuning, flame safeguard and low-water cutoff tests, and refractory and water treatment checks. We also help you plan for parts or a rental if a critical unit fails.
