Why Hartford Boiler

Why Plants Call Hartford Boiler

Hartford Boiler Repair Works is a small, hands-on team that works on heating and process boilers across Connecticut. Our own technicians handle the heavy trades: tube work, pipe welding, refractory, tank lining and burner service. Thermogenics adds a manufacturer’s parts supply, engineering support and rental boilers.

Thermogenics is a boiler manufacturer and service group with over 10 locations across North America. Its engineers, parts supply and rental boilers support our West Hartford crew.

Industries

Connecticut Plants and Institutions

Most of our work is for buildings and plants that need heat or steam without a break: hospitals, colleges and schools, food and beverage factories and institutional campuses. We also service the heating boilers, pumps and zone valves behind commercial HVAC systems, and in Connecticut and Massachusetts we work in corrugated, paper and packaging plants, where steam feeds the process and a boiler trip stops production.

Boiler maintenance

Boiler Maintenance in Connecticut & Massachusetts

A Connecticut heating season keeps boilers, pumps and burners under steady load for months. We schedule maintenance visits monthly, quarterly or annually, depending on how hard your equipment runs. Each visit covers burner tuning and combustion checks, low-water cutoff and flame safeguard testing, safety valve and gauge checks, and an inspection of the water side, tubes and refractory.

Boiler inspections in Connecticut are done by commissioned inspectors from the Connecticut Department of Administrative Services – Office of the State Building Inspector (Boiler Unit), or by your insurance company’s inspector. We make the repairs the inspector writes up.

Steam trap surveys and the rest of the system

A lot of the time the issue isn’t the boiler, it’s the system. Failed steam traps waste fuel and can flood or starve the equipment downstream. The U.S. Department of Energy has reported that in systems neglected for 3–5 years, 15% to 30% of steam traps can fail, and that regular surveys and maintenance can bring that below 5%. Our surveys tag and test each trap and list which ones to repair or replace.

Boiler repair

Boiler Repair Across Connecticut & Massachusetts

24/7 emergency boiler repairCall our West Hartford team at 860-953-9845.

Our emergency line is answered nights and weekends. We restore heat or steam first, as quickly as it can be done safely. Then we trace the cause of the trip, such as a sticking low-water cutoff, a failed flame scanner, scale on the tubes or a feed pump losing prime, and fix it.

Heavy repair is the core of our work. We retube firetube boilers, replace and repair individual tubes, rebuild refractory with castable insulation, line tanks and weld steam and process piping. Code repairs to pressure parts are made under our ‘R’ stamp and documented for your inspector. We also repair or replace pumps and zone valves.

Repair, retrofit or replace

Some failures point to equipment near the end of its working life. When that happens, we lay out the options plainly: repair, retrofit or replace. We handle burner and boiler retrofits, combustion system upgrades, process burners, process instrumentation and process piping, and through Thermogenics we can engineer and install a turn-key replacement. If a repair will take weeks, a rental boiler can carry the load in the meantime.

Boiler parts

Boiler Parts and Supplies in Connecticut

Our service trucks carry the parts that fail most often: gaskets, pumps, actuators, valves, coils and fittings. Other parts we order through Thermogenics, which supplies burner controls, gas trains, process burners, new pumps and rebuilt pumps.

Give us the boiler make, model and serial number, or send a photo of the nameplate, and we will find the part. Some pumps and kits carry long lead times. For equipment that cannot be down, we help you pick critical spares to keep on site and plan rebuilds around your shutdowns.

  • Steam and water valves

Plan ahead for long-lead pumps

Grundfos repair kits can take 8–10 weeks and new pumps 10–12 weeks. Ask us which spares to keep on hand.

Ask about NOx limits early

Give us your pressure, fuel, voltage and local NOx limits when you call so we can match a rental unit to your permit and load.

Boiler rentals

Rental Boilers for Connecticut & Massachusetts

A rental boiler keeps the building heated and the process running when a boiler fails outright or a repair or replacement will take weeks. We arrange Thermogenics rental boilers for Connecticut and Massachusetts customers: containerized Thermocoil steam units from 150 HP to 500 HP, built to a 250 psig MAWP and run at 70–225 psig, firing natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil. They ship in standard shipping containers without oversize escort loads, and each one needs a crane or a lowboy trailer to set it on site.

Thermogenics rentals come with installation, maintenance and 24/7 repairs while the unit is on rent. The steam connection usually sets the schedule. Decide where the unit will sit and how far that is from your plant steam line; 400 ft of piping can mean 2–3 weeks of work. A new replacement boiler often takes about four months to arrive, so plan the rental location for the long run.

Rental range and fleet specs

Beyond the Thermogenics units, we can draw on partner rental inventory from 30 BHP to 2,200+ BHP, including firetube and watertube steam, hot water, thermal fluid, low NOx units and complete boiler rooms.

Frequently asked questions

Questions from Connecticut & Western Massachusetts customers

Who answers if our boiler goes down after 3:30 on a Friday?

Our emergency service answers, on the same number: 860-953-9845. Emergency service runs 24/7; the office is open 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Eastern, Monday to Friday. Tell us the boiler make, what it is doing and what the building or process needs, and we will dispatch a technician from West Hartford.

Do you work on Cleaver-Brooks and other makes?

Yes. We work on all makes, models and types of commercial and industrial boilers, and we see a lot of Cleaver-Brooks, Patterson-Kelley, AERCO, H.B. Smith, KN Series, Hurst, Bigelow, Viessmann and Lochinvar equipment. We also service Power Flame, Carlin and Beckett burners. Through Thermogenics we have factory support for Thermocoil coil-tube boilers.

Can you supply a rental boiler during an outage?

Yes. We arrange a Thermogenics or partner rental boiler sized to your load. The Boiler Rentals section above covers sizes, shipping and site setup.

Can you make code repairs to our pressure parts?

Yes. We hold the National Board ‘R’ stamp for repairs only, which lets us make code repairs to pressure-retaining parts, such as tube replacement and weld repairs, under National Board rules and document them for the inspector. The stamp does not cover alterations. If a job would count as one, we tell you before any work is scheduled.

Do you come to Springfield?

Yes. Our West Hartford team serves Springfield and other Connecticut and Massachusetts sites up to about two hours away, including New Haven, Stamford, Worcester, Waterbury, Middletown, Enfield, Norwich and New London.

Is this the same team as Hartford Boiler Repair Works?

Yes. Hartford Boiler Repair Works joined Thermogenics in 2023 and still runs under its own name from West Hartford. What changed is the support behind us: Thermogenics engineering, parts and rentals.

Our hospital needs steam year-round. How do you repair without a shutdown?

We work on one boiler at a time. Most hospitals and campuses run more than one, so the others carry the load during the repair. Where we can, we plan larger jobs such as retubing or refractory around your lowest-load period. If redundancy is thin, a rental boiler can cover the gap.

Do steam trap surveys pay off for a paper or packaging plant?

Usually, yes. Corrugators and process lines use a lot of steam, and failed traps waste it. In one U.S. Department of Energy case, repairing a single stuck trap on a 150 psig line saved $6,640 per year at a plant valuing steam at $10 per 1,000 lb. Our surveys test each trap and rank the failures so you can fix the costly ones first.
