Temporary Steam When Your Plant Can’t Wait

Most rental boilers go out after an unplanned failure. A tube leak, a cracked tube sheet or failed refractory can mean a repair that runs for weeks, and a new boiler can take months to arrive. A rental keeps steam on the header in the meantime, so a hospital stays heated through a New England January and a food plant keeps shipping orders.

Hartford Boiler Repair Works serves plants across Connecticut and Massachusetts from 44 Cody St. in West Hartford. Springfield is about 40 minutes from the branch, New Haven about 50 minutes and Worcester about 1 hour. We source the rental from the Thermogenics containerized fleet or a partner rental provider, and installation, maintenance and 24/7 repairs come with it. Our West Hartford technicians keep working on your own boiler in the meantime.

When plants rent

When Connecticut Plants Rent a Boiler

Emergency breakdowns

Most rentals follow a failure that means a long or costly repair. A temporary unit restores steam or heat while our team repairs, retubes or rebuilds the boiler that went down.

Planned outages and turnarounds

Book a rental around a planned tube job, refractory repair or inspection outage so production and building heat keep running. Short repairs can need a unit for as little as 8–10 days.

Replacements and long lead times

A new boiler can take four to six months to arrive. The rental stays connected while we remove the old unit, then install and commission the new one.

Winter peaks and extra capacity

Connecticut and Western Massachusetts winters are long and cold. When one boiler at a hospital or campus is out and the others can’t carry the heating load, a rental makes up the difference.

Paper, corrugated and packaging

Corrugators and paper lines need steam to run. When a boiler fails at a corrugated or packaging plant, a rental keeps the line moving during the repair.

New construction and commissioning

During a new boiler room build or an upgrade to an existing one, a rental can supply steam or hot water until the new equipment is installed, tested and ready to carry the load.

The fleet

Rental Boilers From the Thermogenics Network

We match the unit to the job. Thermogenics’ own containerized rentals run from 150 HP to 500 HP, rated 250 psig MAWP for 70–225 psig operation, firing natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil. With partner rental providers, the range covers 30 BHP to 2,200+ BHP: firetube and watertube steam, hot water, thermal fluid, low NOx units and complete boiler rooms.

How a rental works

How a Rental Job Runs, Call to Pickup

  1. 1

    Call and intake questions

We start with who you are and where the plant is, then the details that decide the unit: process type, pressure, fuel, available voltage, water supply and any state or county emissions limits on NOx.

  2. 2

    Site walk and layout

For a serious inquiry, someone usually visits early to check placement, crane or lowboy access and the run to the steam line. A 400 ft run can mean 2–3 weeks of piping.

  3. 3

    Delivery and set

Units travel in standard shipping containers, so they ship as regular loads with no escort or oversized permits. A crane lifts the container off the truck and sets it in place, or a rented lowboy trailer is used.

  4. 4

    Tie-in and start-up

Each unit is inspected and tested before it ships. On site, the unit is connected to steam, feedwater, condensate, fuel and power. The low-water cutoff and flame safeguard are proved before the boiler comes up to pressure.

  5. 5

Support while it runs, then pickup

Installation, maintenance and 24/7 repairs come with the rental. While it runs, our West Hartford team works on your boiler. Once it’s back in service, the load moves over and the container ships out.

Site preparation

What to Have Ready on Site

A rental boiler needs a firm, level spot, a way to get it off the truck and utilities close by. The more of this you can tell us on the first call, the sooner we can match a unit and plan the tie-in.

  • Firm, level spot sized for a 20', 30' or 40' container
  • Crane or lowboy access from the road to the pad
  • Distance from the pad to your steam header or line
  • Fuel supply: natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil
  • Available electrical service and voltage
  • Makeup water supply and a drain point
  • Required steam pressure and load
  • State or county NOx and emissions limits for the site

Frequently asked questions

Boiler rental questions

Our boiler just went down. How soon can a rental be on site?

We confirm timing on the call; it depends on the unit and where it is in the network. Call 860-953-9845, answered 24/7. For a serious inquiry, someone usually comes early to plan the set.

What size rental boiler do we need?

We size it from your actual load, steam pressure and process rather than the nameplate alone. Hospitals and campuses usually size for winter heating load; food, paper and packaging plants size for the process steam their lines draw at the header.

Will a rental run on our site’s fuel?

Thermogenics’ containerized units fire natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil, so tell us what you have at the site and how it’s supplied. Tell us your permit’s NOx limit as well and we’ll match a unit, including low NOx options from the network.

What should we have ready before the boiler arrives?

A firm, level spot, crane or lowboy access, fuel, power at a known voltage, makeup water and a route to your steam line. Keeping the pad close to the line shortens the piping. Our process piping and mechanical team can design and install the temporary tie-in.

Who looks after the rental while it’s running?

Installation, maintenance and 24/7 repairs come with the rental through the Thermogenics network. Our West Hartford technicians keep working on your own boiler.

How long can we keep a rental boiler?

As long as the job takes. Some rentals last 8–10 days while a part arrives or refractory is repaired. A full tube and tube-sheet job on a large firetube can run several months, and a rental bridging to a new boiler stays until that unit is in. The rental leaves once your equipment is back online.
