Industries in Toronto

Toronto industries that run on steam and hot water

Toronto’s boiler load comes mostly from hospitals, campuses, district energy and the commercial core, and the region is one of North America’s largest food and beverage processing clusters. Our first Thermocoil shipment went to a Toronto rubber manufacturer in 1982, and that unit made steam in the city for 20 years.

Outpatient Surgery Center

Hospitals & health systems

Hospital steam plants supply heat, humidification and sterilization. We maintain and repair them and plan each job around the critical loads they carry.

Universities & campuses

Campus central heating plants carry heavy winter loads. We handle annual inspections, retubing, refractory repair and controls work, planned around campus schedules.

Power plant smoke on a cold winter morning

District energy

Downtown steam networks need high availability from large boilers and deaerators. We bring deaerator expertise, combustion tuning and rental boilers for planned or unplanned outages.

Cheese factory

Food & beverage processing

Food plants use steam for cooking, cleaning and sanitation, and a boiler outage stops production. Our work there centres on fast repair and steady preventive maintenance.

Towers, hotels & government

Office towers, hotels, condominiums and government buildings rely on steam and hot-water plants for heat and domestic hot water. We service the boilers, burners and controls.

TSSA inspection and Toronto’s heating season

TSSA, Ontario’s safety regulator, inspects Toronto boilers and pressure vessels. We prepare boilers for inspection and fix findings. Repairs and alterations fall under our National Board R stamp, fuel work under our TSSA Fuels contractor authorization.

Toronto’s heating season runs from October to April, with January design temperatures of about -20 °C. Boilers work hardest in those months, so we schedule overhauls and inspections ahead of the cold. Humid summers keep reheat and domestic hot water loads running, which leaves large plants little downtime. Planning outages early, with a rental boiler lined up, makes those short windows easier to use.

Frequently asked questions

Boiler service questions from Toronto

How quickly can you get a technician to Toronto?

Call 1-877-717-7724. The line is answered at any hour, and we confirm an arrival time on the call. Toronto is about 40 minutes from our Aurora branch outside rush hour.

Which TSSA rules apply to us?

Your boilers and pressure vessels fall under O. Reg. 220/01, and the people who operate them are licensed under O. Reg. 219/01. Both sit under Ontario’s Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000, administered by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), which handles boiler design registration, inspections and certificates of inspection.

Can you also cover our Vaughan and Markham sites?

Yes. Our Aurora team covers Vaughan and Markham for both emergency calls and scheduled maintenance.

Do you work on hospital steam plants that supply sterilization?

Yes. We maintain and repair hospital steam boilers, deaerators, burners and controls, and plan each job around sterilization and humidification loads. For larger outages, a rental boiler can carry the load while we work.

Our downtown site is tight. Will a rental boiler fit?

A single rental unit is 8 ft wide, 8 ft high and 20 or 30 ft long, so fit comes down to truck access and placement space at your site. Check both early and we will plan the delivery with you.
