In Ontario, boilers are regulated by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). TSSA administers the Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000, including O. Reg. 220/01 for boilers and pressure vessels and O. Reg. 219/01 for operating engineers. That covers design registration, inspection and the licensing of operating engineers. We hold a TSSA local certificate of authorization as a Fuels contractor.
Lake Ontario moderates Oshawa’s winters, but January design temperatures still sit near -20 °C. Heating plants run close to full load through the coldest weeks, and losing one boiler can leave a building short of heat. We schedule overhauls for spring and fall, check standby boilers before winter, and inspect condensate and feedwater lines that run through unheated spaces.
