In Ontario, boilers and pressure vessels fall under the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), which administers the Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000. The Boilers and Pressure Vessels regulation (O. Reg. 220/01) covers design registration, inspection and certificates of inspection. O. Reg. 219/01 covers the licensing of operating engineers.
Kitchener-Waterloo is inland, and its winters run colder than along the lakeshore, with January design temperatures around -19 °C. Heating boilers run at high fire for long stretches, and a mid-winter failure is serious for campuses, hospitals and housing. Our seasonal maintenance happens before the cold sets in and covers combustion, low-water cutoffs, pumps and controls across the boiler room.
