In Ontario, boilers fall under the Technical Standards and Safety Authority. TSSA administers the Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000, including the Boilers and Pressure Vessels regulation (O. Reg. 220/01) and the Operating Engineers regulation (O. Reg. 219/01). These cover design registration, inspection, certificates of inspection and the licensing of operating engineers.
Kingston sits at the east end of Lake Ontario, with cold, snowy winters and January design temperatures around -22 °C. Boilers here fire for a long season and cycle hard on shoulder days. Failed traps, poor condensate return and combustion air problems show up quickly in this climate, so our steam trap surveys and combustion checks look at those systems along with the boiler itself.
