Industries in Tucson

Tucson industries that run on steam and hot water

Most of Tucson’s boiler load comes from work inside its buildings rather than winter heating: sterilization and hot water at hospitals, campus central plants, precision manufacturing and the copper operations south of town.

Herlev Hospital, Denmark

Hospitals

The city’s hospitals rely on steam for sterilization, humidification and kitchens. We maintain low-water cutoffs, flame safeguards and standby boilers.

Manometers and heating pipelines

University central plants

Campus central plants feed labs, housing and research buildings. We handle burner tuning, controls upgrades, deaerators and condensate return, and schedule bigger jobs around the academic calendar.

White buildings of modern factory

Aerospace & defense

Precision manufacturing uses hot water and steam for cleaning, finishing and conditioning. We service combustion systems and controls for plants with strict process and safety rules.

City Hall in San Antonio, TX

Government facilities

Public facilities with steam and hot-water plants need boilers that pass inspection and stay online. We offer inspection prep, burner and controls retrofits, and R stamp repairs to boilers and pressure vessels.

Copper mining

The open-pit mines near Sahuarita and Green Valley run process heat in harsh, dusty conditions. Mining is core work for High Desert, from combustion service to mobile welding, fabrication and pressure vessel repairs.

Maintenance & Inspections

Maintenance agreements come in monthly, quarterly and annual plans. Visits cover combustion analysis and burner tuning, safety controls testing, low-water cutoffs, cleaning, steam trap surveys and feedwater checks. We also inspect the equipment around the boiler: pumps, deaerators, chemical feed and condensate return.

Boiler Rentals

Rentals come from the Thermogenics containerized fleet plus partner inventory. Thermocoil units run 150 HP to 500 HP at 250 psig MAWP and fire natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil. Larger units are available on request for outages, retrofits or emergencies.

Local considerations

Arizona boiler inspections and desert operating conditions

In Arizona, the Industrial Commission enforces the Arizona Boiler Rules through ADOSH’s Boiler Safety Section. Since July 2017, certificate and in-service inspections have been performed by authorized third-party inspection agencies. Power boilers need an annual internal certificate inspection, so the boiler has to be opened, cleaned and ready.

With mild winters, Tucson boilers spend most of the year on hot water and process duty. Light loads can cause short cycling and fireside condensation, and standby units sit idle for long stretches. Very hot summers push boiler rooms and burner controls hard, and the occasional freeze can damage exposed piping and feedwater lines that were never protected.
