Industries in Flagstaff

Flagstaff industries that depend on steam and heat

Flagstaff sits high on the Colorado Plateau, and its boiler rooms fire longer each year than most in Arizona. Heating loads run from fall well into spring, and the city’s hospitals and campus rely on steam and hot water for buildings and processes.

University campus

Campus central plants heat classrooms, labs and residence halls through snowy winters. We maintain central plant boilers, tune burners and check controls before the first cold snap.

Arizona boiler inspections and Flagstaff winters

Boilers in Arizona fall under the Arizona Boiler Rules, which the Industrial Commission of Arizona enforces through the ADOSH Boiler Safety Section. Since July 2017, certificate and in-service inspections are performed by authorized third-party inspection agencies, and power boilers require an annual internal certificate inspection. We open up and prepare boilers for the inspector, close them up afterward and make any repairs the inspection calls for.

At about 7,000 ft, Flagstaff has a long heating season that the desert cities to the south do not. Thinner air carries less oxygen per cubic foot, so burners need proper combustion setup and O2 checks at this elevation. Cold months also put freeze risk on condensate lines, feedwater and makeup water. Boilers that fire hard all winter should have tune-ups and inspections done before fall.

Frequently asked questions

Boiler service questions from Flagstaff

How quickly can you get a technician to Flagstaff?

Call 480-292-6550 any time, and we confirm an arrival time on the call. Flagstaff is about 3 hours from our Apache Junction branch. Emergency calls go out in a stocked service truck.

Is our Sedona lodge in your service area?

Yes. Sedona is part of our statewide service area. Sites there get the same maintenance plans, repairs and emergency service as Flagstaff plants.

What does Arizona require for boiler inspections?

Power boilers need an annual internal certificate inspection under the Arizona Boiler Rules, carried out by an authorized third-party inspection agency. We prepare the boiler for the inspector and handle any repairs the inspection finds.

Our hospital needs steam for sterilizers. Can you support a redundant boiler plant?

Yes. We service boilers, burners, feedwater systems and deaerators, and we plan work so one boiler carries the load while another is down. If you lose capacity, a Thermogenics rental boiler can be connected as temporary backup.

Can you get a rental boiler to Flagstaff in winter?

Yes. Tell us your load, pressure and fuel, and we will match a Thermocoil unit and plan delivery around site access and snow. Rental units commonly travel a day or two to reach a site.
