Boiler Rentals in Ottawa & Eastern Ontario

Our Ottawa team puts a rental steam or hot water boiler on site when your boiler fails or a replacement is months away. We match the unit to your plant from the Thermogenics network, then install, maintain and repair it until your own boiler is back in service.

Boiler rentals · Ottawa

Temporary boilers for breakdowns and outages

Most rentals start with a failure, usually a breakdown that means a long or costly repair. Ottawa winters, with January design temperatures around -25 °C, leave hospitals and government buildings no room to go without heat. Our Ottawa team serves the city and Eastern Ontario from Kingston east.

Each rental comes from the Thermogenics network: our own containerized steam boilers plus inventory from rental partners. We pick the unit that fits your pressure, fuel and load, install it and maintain it while it’s on rent. Every unit is inspected and tested before it goes out. With heat restored, we can trace the cause of the failure and do the repair properly instead of rushing it.

When plants rent

When Eastern Ontario plants rent a boiler

Emergency breakdowns

A cracked tube, a failed burner or a low-water event that damages the pressure vessel. A rental keeps steam or heat on while we work out the repair and line up parts.

Planned outages and overhauls

Annual inspections and overhauls with the TSSA or insurance inspector present take the boiler offline. A rental carries the production or building load until it returns.

Waiting on a new boiler

New-boiler lead times often run four to six months once a factory is busy. A rental covers the period from the day the old unit comes out to the day the new one fires.

Winter peak capacity

Ottawa winters push heating plants hard. Extra rental capacity carries a building or plant through the coldest weeks when one boiler can’t keep up or the standby unit is out of service.

Retubes and refractory work

A rental covers a short wait for a part or a refractory repair. A full tube and tube-sheet job on a large firetube can keep it on site for several months.

New construction and start-up

New buildings and plant expansions often need steam or heat before the permanent boiler room is finished. A temporary unit supplies it during construction and early operation.

The fleet

Rental boilers from the Thermogenics network

Our own containerized rentals run from 150 to 500 HP, built for 250 psig MAWP and operated at 70–225 psig on natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil. Partner inventory extends the range from 30 BHP to more than 2,200 BHP: firetube and watertube steam, hot water, thermal fluid, low NOx units, feedwater tanks and complete boiler rooms.

How a rental works

How a rental job runs, call to pickup

  1. 1

    Call and intake questions

Tell us where the plant is and what the boiler serves. We ask about the process, pressure, fuel, voltage, water and emissions limits, and how far the unit will sit from your steam line.

  2. 2

    Site walk

We send someone to the site. We look at where the unit will sit, crane or lowboy access, the run to your steam header, and the fuel, power and water hookups.

  3. 3

    Delivery and set

Our containerized units travel in standard sea can containers, so they move without escort or oversize-load arrangements. A crane lifts the unit off the truck, or a rented lowboy trailer sets it in place.

  4. 4

    Tie-in and start-up

We connect steam, feedwater, condensate, fuel and power. Then we check the controls, flame safeguard and low-water cutoff, fire the boiler and bring it up to your operating pressure.

  5. 5

    Support on rent, then pickup

While the unit is on rent, we maintain it and handle any repairs. When your own boiler is back in service, we shut the rental down, disconnect it and load it out for pickup.

Site preparation

What to have ready on site

Distance to your steam line has the biggest effect on the schedule. A 400-foot run can mean 2–3 weeks of piping, so set the pad close to the boiler room. The pad needs to be firm and level, with room for the crane or lowboy. We also review your feedwater, condensate return and controls, since the rental has to work with them. In an Ottawa winter, plan for snow clearing and freeze protection on temporary lines.

  • A firm, level spot close to the boiler room
  • Clear access for a truck and a crane or lowboy trailer
  • Measured distance from the pad to your steam header
  • Fuel on site: natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil
  • Available electrical voltage and service size
  • Water supply, treatment and condensate return details
  • Required pressure and your steam or hot water load
  • Any emissions limits or permits that apply to the site

Frequently asked questions

Boiler rental questions

Our boiler just failed. How soon can a rental be on site?

Timing depends on the unit you need, what’s available and where your site is. Call 613-244-0633; our team answers 24/7. Once we have your pressure, fuel, load and site details, we line up a unit and send someone to look at the set location.

How do you size a rental boiler for our load?

We size it from your load, operating pressure and process, then match it from our own units or partner inventory. If the rental is covering for a failed boiler, its nameplate and your recent operating pressure are a good starting point. We confirm the size on the call and the site walk.

Can a rental run on propane or oil?

Yes. Our own containerized units fire natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil. Tell us what fuel and voltage are at the site, and any local emissions limits, since they affect which burner and unit we send.

What do we need on site before the rental arrives?

A firm, level location near the boiler room, access for a crane or lowboy trailer, fuel, power, water and a route to your steam line. The steam line distance matters most, because a long piping run adds weeks. We go through each item on the site walk.

Who runs the rental, our staff or yours?

Our Ottawa team installs, maintains and repairs the rental while it’s on site. We settle day-to-day operation with you before start-up, including whether TSSA rules under the Operating Engineers regulation require a licensed operator at your plant.

Can we keep a rental for months while a new boiler is built?

Yes. A rental can stay in place until the new boiler is set and running. Rentals also cover shorter jobs, as brief as 8–10 days while you wait on a part or a refractory repair.
