Boiler Rentals in Red Deer, Central & Southern Alberta

Prime runs the largest boiler rental fleet in Western Canada: low- and high-pressure steam, hot water and superheated steam, skid- and trailer-mounted, from 30 BHP to a 2,200 HP watertube. Our Red Deer team sizes the unit, sets it, starts it up and supports it until pickup.

Temporary steam and heat for Alberta plants

Alberta January design temperatures sit around −30 °C and heating seasons are long, so a failed boiler leaves a plant very little time. A process that loses steam stops producing. A rental boiler carries the load while the failed unit is repaired or replaced. We rent boilers for breakdowns, planned turnarounds and field work, and the same Red Deer team services, repairs and certifies the equipment the rental is standing in for.

Our Red Deer team works with energy and oil and gas sites, power plants, petrochemical operations, food and beverage processors, lumber mills and institutions across Central and Southern Alberta. We match the unit to your process, size it and set it up for the fuel you have, and our crew ties it in and starts it up.

When plants rent

When Alberta plants rent a boiler

Emergency boiler failures

A tube leak, refractory failure or burner fault can take a boiler offline. We get a rental moving while our service crew starts on the repair.

Plant turnarounds and outages

Turnarounds and inspection outages still need steam somewhere in the plant. We line up a unit ahead of the shutdown so heat and process steam carry on while the main boiler is opened up.

Bridging a boiler replacement

New boilers take months to build, ship and install. A rental carries the load from the day the old unit is retired until the new one is commissioned. Our team can handle that install as well.

Extra winter capacity

A cold snap can push a heating plant past what its boilers can carry, and a process expansion can outgrow the boiler room. A rental adds capacity for the season or for as long as it is needed.

Hydrotesting and rail car heating

We supply steam for pipeline hydrotesting down to −40 °C, rail car and bulker trailer heating, vessel steaming, vapour phase cleaning and oil storage tank cleaning.

Commissioning and new construction

New plants and expansions often need steam or heat before the permanent boiler room is ready. A rental covers that gap while our field team commissions the permanent equipment.

The fleet

The Prime rental fleet

The largest unit is a 2,200 HP Nebraska watertube rated to 750 psig. The fleet also includes low- and high-pressure firetubes, watertubes from 200 to 800 BHP, hot water and condensing units, and a truck-mounted 400 BHP watertube with an onboard generator. There are superheated steam trailers to 750 °F and glycol and thermal fluid heaters. Fuels are diesel, natural gas and dual fuel.

How a rental works

How a rental job runs

  1. 1

    Call and questions

We start with who you are, where the plant is and what the steam is for. Then we ask about required pressure, available fuel, site voltage, water supply and treatment, emissions limits, and how far the unit will sit from your steam line.

  2. 2

    Site walk

On a larger job we come and look. We check where the unit can sit, truck access, the piping run to your header, and the power, fuel and water connections. We also look at blowdown and drain points. Then we confirm the unit and the plan.

  3. 3

    Delivery and set

Trailer-mounted units roll in and park. Skid-mounted units are lifted and set at the spot agreed during the site walk. We bring the ancillary equipment the job calls for: hoses, powered water pumps, auxiliary fuel tanks or generators.

  4. 4

    Tie-in and start-up

Our field team connects steam, feedwater, fuel and power, checks the controls and safeties, and fires the unit.

  5. 5

    Support on rent and pickup

While the unit is on rent, our service crews are on call for troubleshooting and repairs. When your own boiler is back in service, we disconnect the rental, drain it and haul it away.

Site preparation

What to have ready on site

Set-up is faster when the site is prepared before the truck arrives. Pick a level, accessible spot as close to your steam or hot water header as you can manage, since a long pipe run adds time and cost. Have someone on site who knows the plant’s systems and can make decisions. In winter, plan freeze protection for every temporary line, because exposed water piping freezes quickly at Alberta temperatures.

  • A level, accessible pad with room for the truck to manoeuvre
  • Shortest practical route to your steam or hot water header
  • Fuel supply: natural gas connection or space for diesel tanks
  • Power at the right voltage, or space for a generator
  • Make-up water source and your water treatment details
  • A drain or blowdown point that meets site rules
  • Freeze protection plan for temporary lines in winter
  • Site contact, safety orientation and any required permits

Frequently asked questions

Boiler rental questions

Our boiler just went down. How soon can a rental be on site?

Timing depends on which unit fits your load, where it is and how far it has to travel. Call as soon as the boiler goes down; our emergency line is answered 24/7. Our service crew can start on your failed boiler while the rental is arranged.

How big a rental boiler do we need?

We size it from your steam flow or heating demand, pressure and process. Your current boiler’s rating is a good start. Units run from a 30 BHP firetube to a 2,200 HP watertube, with watertube steam units at 30,000–110,000 lb/hr up to 750 psig. We confirm the size on the call.

We only have natural gas at the site. Will that work?

Yes. Most of our rentals run on natural gas, including the dual-fuel firetubes, the hot water and condensing units, the Simoneau and larger watertubes and the 2,200 HP Nebraska. Some smaller firetubes are diesel-only, so tell us your load and we’ll match a gas-fired unit.

What hookups does the rental need from us?

A level spot to set the unit, a route for steam piping to your header, fuel, power at the right voltage, make-up water and a drain for blowdown. If site power is short, our truck-mounted 400 BHP watertube carries its own generator. We also rent generators, powered water pumps, hoses and auxiliary fuel tanks.

Will your team operate the rental, or do our people watch it?

We agree who watches the unit with you before start-up. Our field team starts it and sets the controls, and our crews are on call 24/7 for repairs.

Will you send a rental to Calgary, Lethbridge or Medicine Hat?

Our Red Deer team sends rentals to all three. Calgary is about 1.5 hours from our branch, Lethbridge about 3.5 hours and Medicine Hat about 4.5 hours. We cover Central and Southern Alberta and the rest of Western Canada.
