Boiler Rentals in Cincinnati, Ohio & Kentucky

When a repair will take weeks, our Cincinnati team can bring in a temporary steam or hot water boiler matched to your load, pressure and fuel. We source it from the Thermogenics rental network, set it, tie it in and support it until your own boiler is back online.

Temporary Boilers for Plants That Can’t Stop

Most rentals start with a failure. Usually it is a breakdown that means a long or costly repair, such as a tube sheet replacement, a refractory rebuild or a part on back order. A plant without its boiler loses production, and a hospital or campus loses heat. A rental keeps steam on the header while the repair is done properly.

We offer rentals to existing clients when a unit is available and suits the process. Units come from the Thermogenics network: around 24 of our own, plus partner inventory. Our Cincinnati technicians set and support them. Rental availability depends on the fleet; call early and we’ll tell you what we can supply.

When plants rent

When Ohio and Kentucky Plants Rent

Emergency breakdowns

A rental carries the load when a boiler fails and the repair will be long or costly. Our technicians make the failed boiler safe and find the cause while temporary steam keeps the plant running.

Bridging a new boiler order

New-boiler lead time is about four months when the factory is even moderately busy, and it can stretch to four to six. A rental carries the plant from the day the old unit comes out until the new one fires.

Short repairs and part waits

Some rentals last only 8–10 days, covering a refractory repair or a part in transit.

Major retubes

Larger work, such as a full retube and tube sheet on a big firetube, can run several months. A rental keeps steam on while that work is done.

Planned outages and inspections

High-pressure boilers in Ohio need annual internal and external inspections. A rental lets you open the boiler, clean it and have it inspected without losing steam.

Ohio sites and operator rules

For Ohio sites, the 600 HP Ohio Special is operator exempt in the state of Ohio. Its footprint is 40–60% smaller than conventional firetube boilers, so it fits tighter pads.

The fleet

Rental Boilers From the Thermogenics Network

Our own Thermocoil rental boilers run from 150 HP to 500 HP at 250 psig MAWP, operating 70–225 psig on natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil, and reach up to 85% efficiency with economizers. They ship in standard shipping containers, so no oversized loads. In Ohio we also offer the 600 HP Ohio Special. Across the network, units span 30 BHP to 2,200+ BHP, including watertube, thermal fluid, hot water and low NOx units.

How a rental works

How a Rental Job Runs, Call to Pickup

  1. 1

    Call and intake questions

We start with who you are, where the plant is and what the steam does. Then we cover process, pressure, fuel, voltage, water, and the state or county NOx limits the unit has to meet.

  2. 2

    Site walk

We usually get someone on site. We look at where the unit can sit, crane access and how far it is from your steam line. At 400 ft, the piping alone can take 2–3 weeks.

  3. 3

    Delivery and setting

Containerized units arrive by truck and need a crane to lift them off, or a rented lowboy trailer. We plan the lift and placement with you before the unit ships.

  4. 4

    Tie-in and start-up

Each unit is inspected and tested before it leaves. On site, we connect steam, feedwater, condensate, fuel and power. Then we fire it, check combustion and bring it up to your operating pressure.

  5. 5

    Support on rent and pickup

Our Cincinnati team maintains and repairs the rental while it is on site. When your own boiler is back in service, we disconnect the rental and load it out.

Site preparation

What to Have Ready on Site

Single Thermocoil units are 8' W x 8' H in 20' or 30' lengths, and two-boiler units are 8' W x 9'6" H x 40' L. Plan for a level pad and room for a crane. Keep the pad as close to your steam header as you can, because temporary piping takes time to run. Have your feedwater, condensate and water treatment details on hand for the first call.

  • Level, solid pad sized for a 20', 30' or 40' container
  • Clear crane or lowboy access from the road to the pad
  • Measured route from the pad to your steam header
  • Fuel supply: natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil
  • Electrical service at the voltage the unit needs
  • Feedwater supply and a plan for condensate return
  • Your state or county air permit and NOx limits
  • A site contact who can approve the tie-in points

Frequently asked questions

Boiler rental questions

Our boiler is down. How soon can a rental arrive?

We confirm timing on the call, once we know which unit fits your load and where it is coming from. Call our 24/7 line, 1-877-717-7724, with your process, pressure and fuel. We’ll tell you what we can supply and when we can get someone to your site.

How do you size the rental boiler?

We size it with you from your actual load and operating pressure. Our own Thermocoil units run 150 HP to 500 HP, and the wider network covers larger loads. For Ohio sites, the 600 HP Ohio Special has a footprint 40–60% smaller than conventional firetube boilers.

Will a rental meet our air permit’s NOx limit?

Most US sites need sub-30 NOx, and some states and counties set tighter limits. We ask about emissions on the first call, so tell us what your permit allows and we’ll match a low NOx unit if you need one.

What has to be in place before the unit shows up?

You need a level place to set the unit, access for a crane or lowboy, fuel, power at the right voltage, feedwater and a route to your steam line. The distance to the line matters most, since long piping runs add weeks. We walk the site with you and flag anything missing.

Who maintains the rental, and do we need an operator?

Our Cincinnati technicians maintain it. Rentals include installation, maintenance and repairs, and we respond if the unit trips or needs adjustment. Operator requirements depend on the unit and Ohio rules. The Ohio Special is operator exempt in the state of Ohio, which helps plants that don’t staff a boiler operator on every shift.

Can you set a rental in Dayton, Columbus, Lexington or Cleveland?

Yes, we serve them from our Cincinnati branch. Dayton is about 1 hour away, Lexington about 1.5 hours, Columbus about 2 hours and Cleveland about 4 hours. The rental itself ships to your site from the Thermogenics network.
