Nebraska boilers fall under the Boiler Inspection Act, run by the Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s Boiler Inspection Program since it moved from the Department of Labor in 2019. Most boilers, including heating, hot-water supply and process units, must be inspected at least every 12 months, built to the ASME code and registered with the National Board.
Lincoln’s winter design temperatures sit near -5 °F, and cold, windy stretches hold heating plants at high fire for long periods. Weak refractory, sticking controls and worn feedwater pumps tend to fail then. In hot summers the same plants run at low demand and cycle hard. Many problems start in the system around the boiler, so before winter we check traps, condensate return and controls as well as the boiler itself.
