Temporary Steam When Your Plant Can’t Wait

Most boiler rentals start with a failure. A cracked tube sheet, a collapsed refractory wall or a burner that won’t light safely can mean weeks of repair, and a plant without steam stops production. Other rentals are planned ahead of an outage or a boiler replacement. Either way, the rental keeps steam on the line while the permanent repair is done properly.

In this region, boilers rarely run for space heat. They make hot water, supply laundries, sterilize instruments and feed process steam, so losing one stops production or affects patient care. Our team at Yown’s already maintains and repairs boilers for hospitals, food and beverage plants, corrugated and chemical processors and government facilities across the region. The same people handle your rental, so the unit we bring in is set up for how your plant runs.

When plants rent

When Plants Rent a Boiler

Emergency breakdowns

When a failed boiler needs a long or costly repair, we bring in temporary steam so the plant keeps running while our team repairs the original.

Planned outages and retubes

Retubing, refractory work and other repairs scheduled ahead of time can be planned with a rental already in place, so steam stays on for the whole outage.

Waiting on a part

When a repair is held up by a part or by refractory work, a short rental of 8–10 days can carry the load until the boiler is back together.

Major tube work

A full tube and tube-sheet job on a large firetube can take several months. A rental supplies steam from the day the boiler comes off line until the repair is finished.

Waiting on a new boiler

A new boiler can take months to arrive once ordered. A rental bridges the gap between the old unit coming out and the new one going in.

Extra or backup capacity

When a plant adds a line, has a peak season or runs without a redundant boiler, a rental adds capacity without a permanent install.

The fleet

Rental Boilers from the Thermogenics Network

We match each unit to the job from the Thermogenics network. That includes Thermogenics’ own rental boilers from 150 HP to 500 HP, built for 250 psig, operating at 70–225 psig and fired on natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil, plus the wider network range from 30 BHP to 2,200+ BHP: firetube, watertube, hot water, thermal fluid, low NOx and complete boiler rooms.

How a rental works

How a Rental Job Runs

  1. 1

    Call and questions

Call 904-786-1645. We ask where your plant is, what the steam serves, the pressure you need, your fuel, available voltage, water supply and any state or county NOx limits. Those answers decide which unit fits.

  2. 2

    Site walk

We look at where the rental will sit, how the truck and crane get in, and how far the unit will be from your steam line. On a long run, 400 feet of pipe can mean 2–3 weeks of piping work.

  3. 3

    Delivery and setting

Thermogenics units ship in standard shipping containers, so they travel as regular loads with no escort or oversize permits. They arrive by truck and need a crane, or a rented lowboy trailer, to set them in place.

  4. 4

    Tie-in and start-up

Each rental is inspected and tested before it ships. On site, our team connects steam, feedwater, fuel, power and blowdown, then fires the unit and checks combustion, the low-water cutoff and the flame safeguard before it goes on line.

  5. 5

    Support and pickup

While the unit is on rent, our team handles maintenance and repairs. Once your own boiler is repaired or replaced and back on line, we disconnect the rental, make the connections safe and arrange pickup.

Site preparation

What to Have Ready on Site

The quickest installs start with a level, reachable spot close to the existing steam header and the utilities the unit needs. Before tying in, we also check feedwater, condensate return and water treatment, because problems there affect the rental as much as the original boiler. Tell us what you can and can’t provide, and we’ll plan around it.

  • A level pad or lot with room for the container and crane
  • Truck and crane access from the road to the set location
  • The shortest practical route to your steam header
  • Fuel supply: natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil
  • Electrical service at the voltage the unit needs
  • Treated makeup water and a feedwater connection
  • A drain for blowdown and condensate
  • Your state or county air permit and NOx limit details

Frequently asked questions

Boiler rental questions

How soon can a rental reach our Jacksonville plant?

Timing depends on which unit fits your process and where that unit is when you call. Call 904-786-1645 as soon as you know the boiler is down or a repair will run long. We check availability across the Thermogenics network and our rental partners, and give you a clear answer on timing before anything is booked.

How do we work out what size rental we need?

Size comes from your load, operating pressure and how the steam is used. Send us the nameplate details from the boiler you’re covering and tell us what it serves. We’ll size the rental from there and match it to a unit in the network’s range.

What fuels can a rental boiler run on, and what about NOx limits?

Thermogenics’ own rental boilers fire natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil, and run up to 85% efficiency with economizers. Partner inventory includes low NOx units. Air limits vary by state and county, and sub-30 NOx is typical in the U.S., so give us your permit limits on the first call and we can match a unit to them.

Can you set a rental at our plant in Brunswick or Savannah?

Yes. Our service area covers North Florida and South Georgia. Brunswick is about 1 hour from the branch and Savannah about 2.5 hours. The rental ships from the Thermogenics network straight to your site, and our technicians handle the tie-in and support.

Can your team run and look after the rental while it’s on site?

Yes. Installation, maintenance and 24/7 repairs come with the rental. Our team handles any trip.

Can we rent while we wait for a new boiler to arrive?

Yes. New boilers often take four to six months to arrive once ordered, and a rental covers that time. Yown’s also quotes and installs replacement boilers, so the rental, the removal of the old unit and the new installation can be planned together.
