Temporary Steam When Your Plant Can’t Wait

Most rental calls start with a failure. A tube lets go, a burner won’t hold a flame, or an inspection finds damage that will take weeks to fix. A food plant without steam stops production, and a hospital can’t go without heat through an Iowa winter. A rental boiler keeps steam or hot water on the line while our team repairs or replaces the permanent equipment.

Our Sioux City team sizes the unit to your load, pressure and fuel, sets it, ties it in and supports it until your own boiler is back. We serve plants across the Midwest. Sioux Falls and Omaha are each about 1.5 hours from our Sioux City branch, Lincoln about 2.5 hours and Des Moines about 3 hours.

When plants rent

When Plants in the Region Rent a Boiler

Emergency breakdowns

Most rentals follow a failure. When the repair will be long or costly, a rental restores steam while we track down the cause and make the fix.

Planned outages and repairs

A rental covers scheduled work such as refractory repair, waiting on a part, or a full tube and tube-sheet job on a large firetube, so the plant keeps running through the outage.

Waiting on a new boiler

New-boiler lead times often run four to six months when factories are busy. A rental carries your load from the day the old unit comes out until the new one is commissioned.

Winter and extra capacity

Heating design temperatures near -5 °F work hospital and campus heating plants hard. A rental adds capacity when a cold snap or a growing load outruns your equipment.

Food and process steam

Meat packing, corn processing and ethanol plants across Iowa use steam for cooking, cleaning and distillation. A rental keeps production steam available while the plant boiler is down.

New construction and start-up

Temporary steam or hot water can heat a building under construction or carry a process while permanent boilers are installed, piped and commissioned.

The fleet

Rental Boilers From Thermogenics and Our Partners

We match the unit to the job. The Thermogenics containerized rentals run 150 HP to 500 HP at 250 psig MAWP, operate at 70–225 psig, and fire natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil. They ship in standard sea can containers and travel without escorts. Through partner providers, the range runs from 30 BHP to 2,200+ BHP.

How a rental works

How a Rental Job Runs, Call to Pickup

  1. 1

    The first call

We ask where your plant is, what the steam or hot water serves, the pressure you need, your fuel and voltage, your water supply, and any state or county emissions limits, so the unit we send meets your air permit.

  2. 2

    Site walk

We look at where the unit will sit, how a crane or lowboy reaches it, and how far it is to your steam line. A 400 ft run can mean 2–3 weeks of piping, so we plan the shortest practical route.

  3. 3

    Delivery and set

The container comes off the truck by crane or moves on a rented lowboy trailer. Every unit is inspected and tested before it is deployed to your site.

  4. 4

    Tie-in and start-up

Our technicians connect steam, condensate, feedwater, fuel and power, check the low-water cutoff and flame safeguard, then fire the boiler and bring it up to your operating pressure.

  5. 5

    On rent and pickup

Rental packages include maintenance and repairs. Once your own boiler is back online, we disconnect, drain and load the unit for return.

Site preparation

What to Have Ready on Site

Piping distance, crane access and utilities often shape a rental schedule more than the boiler itself. With these details from the first call, we can size the unit and plan the tie-in.

  • A level, reachable spot for a 20, 30 or 40 ft container
  • Clear crane or lowboy access from the road to the pad
  • Distance from the pad to your steam header or tie-in point
  • Fuel supply: natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil
  • Available electrical service and voltage
  • Makeup water source and condensate return details
  • Required steam pressure or hot water temperature and load
  • Any state or county emissions permits or NOx limits

Frequently asked questions

Boiler rental questions

How soon can a rental boiler reach us in Sioux City?

Our line at 712-252-4797 is answered 24/7, and we confirm timing on that call, based on your load and where the right unit is. We usually get someone to your site quickly to check the setting, crane access and piping run.

What size rental boiler does our plant need?

Size comes from your load, operating pressure and how much of the plant must stay running. The Thermogenics containerized fleet covers 150 HP to 500 HP, and partner inventory reaches 2,200+ BHP. Send us your boiler nameplate and steam demand and we will size the rental with you.

Which fuels and boiler types are available to rent?

Thermogenics containerized rentals fire natural gas, propane or No. 2 oil. Through partner providers we can also source firetube and watertube steam boilers, low-volume steam, hot water boilers, thermal fluid heaters, low NOx units, feedwater tanks, water treatment equipment and complete boiler rooms.

What has to be ready before the boiler shows up?

You need a pad for the container, room for a crane or lowboy trailer, fuel, electrical service, makeup water and a route to your steam line. A short run to the header saves piping time before start-up. The checklist above lists the details we ask for on the first call.

Who services the rental while it’s running?

Our Sioux City team does. Rental packages include installation, maintenance and repairs. Our team also makes the permanent repair, with ASME code repairs (‘R’ stamp) and ASME code power piping (‘S’ stamp).

How long can we keep a rental boiler?

As long as the job takes. A rental can be as short as 8–10 days when you are waiting on a part or a refractory repair. Retubing a large firetube, or bridging until a new boiler is built and delivered, can keep a unit on site for several months.
