Heat, hot water and steam keep hospitals running around the clock. That makes them some of the most energy-intensive buildings in Canada, and health care produces about 4.6% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions. Much of that energy runs through one room: the boiler room.

Since 2004, Greening Health Care has brought hospitals together to cut energy use, emissions and costs. Members share research, run pilot projects, use best-practice guides and track their real savings month by month. The program is run by the Climate Challenge Network, a non-profit working to cut emissions from buildings across North America.
